ETSI Knowledge and Education About Standardisation - "Understanding ICT Standardization: Principles and Practice”

ETSI has released a new set of classroom teaching materials on ICT standardization. A comprehensive textbook, “Understanding ICT Standardization: Principles and Practice”, together with an extensive slide pack have been developed with the support of the European Commission and the EFTA Secretariat.

The textbook and slides, written by six experts who have both academic and practical standardization experience, are available for download for free from the ETSI website.

The annual Union work programme for European standardisation1 (work programme) for 2020 identifies priorities for European standardisation. It sets out the specific objectives and policies for European standards and standardisation deliverables in the coming period and lists the type of actions the Commission intends to take2. These actions on European standardisation are embedded in Union policies, such as the digital and single markets, energy efficiency & climate and international trade.

ETSI issues Report on IoT devices for emergency communications

ETSI TR 103 582 considers communications involving IoT devices in all types of emergency situations, such as emergency calling, mission critical communications, Public Warning System communications and adds a new emergency communications domain identified as automated emergency response, where IoT devices can act after receiving a trigger to prevent hazardous situations.

“Core Principles and Approaches for Licensing of Standard Essential Patents"

The CWA2 project was launched within the framework of a so-called CEN CENELEC Workshop Agreement, with the support of Deutsche Institut für Normung (DIN).
56 organizations from a diverse range of industries, as well as industry associations representing hundreds more, have worked to develop a CWA setting out policy approaches that may be helpful to companies, individuals and policy-makers in evaluating SEP licensing.

BSI and PETRAS launched the new IoT Standards White Paper, Navigating and informing the IoT standards landscape: A guide for SMEs and Start-ups, at the BSI Standards Conference at Park Plaza on 25th April 2019.

Research for the White Paper has been led by Dr Irina Brass, Co-Investigator in the Standards, Governance and Policy Stream in PETRAS, and Chair of the BSI IoT-1 Technical Committee.
