TRUST-IT SERVICES (Project Coordinator)

Fraunhofer SCAI

Trust-IT is a UK SME specialised in research analysis & communication in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) as well as the development & implementation of innovative web & mobile applications across Europe and globally. In recent years it has turned its expertise into developing tools and services for smaller companies in the areas for cybersecurity and providing free, online tools for making cloud computing easier for novices especially.

Founded in 2002, Trust-IT’s central asset is a highly-skilled, dynamic, international team that performs quality ICT market research and result-oriented stakeholder communication and engagement strategies, working closely with SMEs, government and research institutions.

Trust-IT is committed to drive forward new ideas, pinpoint market opportunities, create multi-stakeholder partnership and build international networks and communities. It has gained expertise in the ICT priority areas identified in StandICT: Cloud computing, 5G, IoT, Cybersecurity and Data. Trust-IT covers both the technological and human interaction aspects and creates innovative business models & exploitation plans.

Trust-IT is a prime mover in bringing global, ICT communities together and has a long-lasting, deep knowledge of conducting user experience analyses with stakeholders, as well as contributing to innovation projects and standardisation initiatives.

Inside the context of international cooperation synergies, Trust-IT has also established pluriannual relations with members from NIST (US) & fostered the discussion between the 5G-ENSURE project and NIST (July 2016) with NIST collaborators who are evaluating the relevant standards for the 5G-ENSURE security enablers, in particular those proposed by NIST. Trust-IT manages impeccable global relations and has been instrumental in relations between the US relations within 5G-ENSURE with the PICASSO project as well as developing key leads from the 5G!PAGODA project within the EAG.

The Company has vast experience in co-ordination of EC-funded CSA initiatives, as well as in roll-out of sustainability activities for organisations involved in innovation efforts, with a focus on market uptake, see for instance the initiative RDA Europe (http://europe.rd-alliance.org/) on data-driven innovation, and its effort in development and promotion of Cloud Computing Tools and Services for SMEs (e.g., www.cloudwatchhub.eu ; www.picse.eu; www.sla-ready.eu). Trust-IT actively participates to EC-policy discussions on cybersecurity and is a founding partner of the WISER “Wide-impact cyber security risk framework” (www.cyberwiser.eu) initiative (2015-2017).

Research Dedicated to the Future: Fraunhofer is Europe’s largest application-oriented research organization. Our research efforts are geared entirely to people’s needs: health, security, communication, energy and the environment. As a result, the work undertaken by our researchers and developers has a significant impact on people’s lives. We are creative. We shape technology. We design products. We improve methods and techniques. We open up new vistas. In short, we forge the future.

SCAI is a member of the Fraunhofer Information and Communication Technology Group, which comprises the 20 Fraunhofer ICT institutes. As the largest ICT research group in Europe, the Fraunhofer Information and Communication Technology Group serves as a one-stop shop for industrial customers and media enterprises.

The Fraunhofer Institute for Algorithms and Scientific Computing (SCAI) is member of the ICT Group. The SCAI conducts research in the fields of computational science, optimization and bioinformatics, and is a prominent corporate partner in the industrial and science sectors.

SCAI designs and optimizes industrial applications, implements custom solutions for production and logistics, and offers calculations on high-performance computers. Our services are based on industrial engineering, combined with state-of-the-art methods from applied mathematics and information technology.

SCAI especially excels in coupled simulation of different physical disciplines, and develops software for visualization of calculation results. In bioinformatics, SCAI offers workflow-oriented and integrated IT infrastructures for information extraction. SCAI has accumulated specialized expertise in both structured storing and administration of data and research results, in parallel computing and distributed computing, and in the organization of projects.

The institute has 138 employees, including Ph.D. students as well as graduate students and student assistants. Its annual budget is 11 million Euro.

Its research group on Grid and Cloud middleware has a long-standing experience in all facets of distributed computing. After several more than 10 years R&D in Grid computing technology and standardisation, the focus of the group is on Service Level Agreements, data protection and data security in Clouds since several years, with a strong engagement in related standardisation.

The groups’ experience and knowledge in the five priority areas is complemented with contributions from other Fraunhofer institutes, in particular AISEC, SIT, FIT, FOKUS, HHI, and the Fraunhofer Big Data Alliance
