This standard specifies asymmetric algorithms to achieve confidentiality. It has been confirmed in April 2018 by the experts in ISO/IEC JTC1 SC27 WG2, after a thorough review by the National Bodies. Currently an amendment is in the standardisation process about the inclusion of FACE, a key encapsulation mechanism. This standard is of particular importance as it contains techniques to secure the transmission of secret keys between a sender and a recipient, used afterwards for their discussion. It is currently very mature, and will be improved with the addition of the new amendment in the near future. In the case of the advent of general-purpose large-scale quantum computers (which is yet far from happening), this standard will be shaken and will have to be revised.
