Identity management plays an essential role for blockchains. On permissioned systems, it is the foundational basis for the access control and in permissionless system allows the user to easily and safely access the keys needed for signing the transactions on the blockchain. Along with this "identity management for blockchains", there is also the "identity management with blockchains" area, which includes elements like the Self-Sovereign Identity Systems and the Self-Managed Identity Systems, where the latter are of particular interest in Europe, as the eIDAS identity could be the anchor identity for blockchains. This WG deals primarily with these two different problem sets (identity management for/with blockchains) considering the different frameworks for digital identity (either for human beings, legal persons, objects), how they could be mapped and used in a blockchain and which levels of assurance this provide.
